What About the Men? Now and Then.

by Guest Blogger

Guest post by Luckynickl

A little over a year ago in May, 2011, Ms. Julie Bindel wrote a fabulous piece here at the Hub titled, “What About The Men?”  The piece was radical and amazing.  Late last night, I ran across this post over at Gender Trender.  It’s an interview of Juile Bindel by male “transgender” Paris Lees conducted earlier this year.  Apparently, in the year since she first wrote for the Hub, Ms. Bindel has done an about-face on the issue of “What about the men?”.

I can only wonder, what happened between now and then?  Are aliens abducting radical feminists and replacing them with pod people?!

Back then, Julie Bindel was defending women-only space and saying how not enough has changed to invite men to the party.  Some excerpts from Julie Bindel’s post at the Hub:

Dear Mara,

Hope you are well. I am writing to ask the National Center for Transgender Equality to weigh in on a controversy that has pitted Lesbians, many of whom have been “good” allies to the Transgender community, and Transgender women. I am sure you have heard of it – the “Cotton Ceiling,” a term porn actress Drew DeVeaux and other Transgender women use to “challenge lesbians’ tendency to support Transgender causes generally but draw the line at sleeping with Transgender women or including Transgender lesbians in their sexual communities.”

Baltimore Sun Misses Real Story that Gender Identity Enslaves Females, No One Seems to Care

by Badhbh Catha

The GLBT Movement: Now with 100% Less Lesbians!

Recently, Baltimore County, Maryland has served as the latest backdrop in a legislative effort to enshrine stereotypes about Females into law.  The legislation – adopted earlier this week to ban discrimination based on so-called “Gender Identity or Expression” –  provides a legal remedy for individuals who face discrimination in employment, housing and certain public accommodations based on their “gender-related identity or appearance … regardless of (their) assigned sex at birth.”

*Whose* ‘Biology-Is-Destiny’ Around Here, Anyway?

by HUB Newsfeed

Patriarchy has been reconstructing women to “fit” within male biological norms and convenience for millennia. One of the first bits of female biology to start reconstruction was pregnancy and birthing, more recently, patriarchy has focussed on reconstructing sexuality and sexual identity. In all cases, this reconstruction removes all the uniquely female bits. As Germaine Greer in her classic The Female Eunuch pointed out, women often seek social reconstruction as castrated males, or as mentioned in Radically Speaking: Feminism Reclaimed, women’s only options are to 1. Live WITH a man, or 2. Live LIKE a man.

Sex, Gender, Lies & Female-Hatred

by HUB Newsfeed

In  “Gender as a Hate Crime” (Dianne Post, Rain and Thunder #41  ) it was noted that “When I was lobbying for the inclusion of gender in the Arizona hate crimes statute many years ago, the man who spoke before me said that crimes against women are so common that if they were included in hate crimes, it would overwhelm the system and no one else would get any attention.”

Indeed.  I guess this is why transgender folks can achieve human rights, civil rights and hate crimes legislative protections but females can’t.  Female-hatred can continue unabated without consequence or even being questioned.  It is so ‘normal’ and so widespread, that it is not seen as systemic structural oppression in its own right.

One of the most common socially approved expressions of this universal Hate, is the continuing metaphor of women as animals, (ie not-human animals), chicks, cows, dogs, bunnies, and often presented as such in advertising, along with gender minstrel performance as a put-down, just as racial minstrel performance is.  Then there are the cultural caricatures, the Political Propaganda, the enormous hatred and sexualised violence towards females in mainstream music, movies, advertising, TV sitcoms along with appalling western cultural stereotypes of the nagging fishwife, elderly mother(in-law), the ball-buster and the bimbo.  The list is endless. If such Hatred in cultural stereotypes are applied to non-white races, it would be rightly labelled hate-speech.

Would “Caylee’s Law” have Protected Caylee?

by Loretta Kemsley

People are jumping on the Caylee’s Law bandwagon without asking the essential question: how would this law have protected her? Of course, the rage isn’t really about protecting Caylee Anthony. It’s against her mother — Casey Anthony — who is perceived as getting away with murder. But let’s consider another scenario: what if Caylee died while her grandmother, Cindy Anthony, was trying to murder her mother, Casey?

According to brother, Lee Anthony, and other sources that is what happened right before Caylee disappeared. Per their neighbor, Casey left without Caylee, so why did George Anthony testify he saw Casey leave with Caylee?

The public rage is rooted in these unanswered questions. We haven’t found the answer in the hate fest infecting the talk shows who covered the trial. We didn’t find it during the testimony in the courtroom. We won’t find them in a new law requiring parents to report children missing. So let’s look in another direction: What if Caylee died because of the domestic violence committed by her grandmother?

Presumed Innocent? Only if You’re Male

by Loretta Kemsley

“…this was a selfish, narcissistic, self-involved slut who wanted to kill her child to have “la bella vita.” Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera wasn’t reluctant to use sexual slurs as he condemned Casey Anthony, a woman on trial for the death of her daughter.

Fortunately, Ben Stein at American Spectator was outraged, “Presumed Innocent, Anyone?,” screamed his headline. Oh, wait, he wasn’t talking about Anthony. He was defending Dominque Strauss-Kahn, the former IMF chief charged with sexually assaulting a hotel maid.

And now the New York Post has joined Rivera in defending (not vilifying) Strauss-Kahn and smeared the maid with their own sexual slur: “Maid cleaning up as ‘hooker’ — Big tips for extra ‘turndown service’ — Prosecutors list litany of lies, scams.”

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Author Witnessed Real-Life Gang Rape, Never Reported It

by FCM

the international best-selling “the millennium trilogy” and its author, swedish journalist stieg larsson, are making headlines again, after his life partner of 30 years revealed that larsson left behind an unfinished fourth novel when he died unexpectedly in 2004…without a will, and leaving her nothing except an ongoing bitter battle with his father and brother over his now-considerable estate.  gee, thanks dood!

better known as “the girl with the dragon tattoo” series, the first book (in swedish) was originally called men who hate women
